Dr. Vilen’s goal is to find ways to be fit and active in an ever-changing world. Her mission is to have have an excellent quality of life and help others do the same through the integrated approach of being a family practice and sports medicine physician.
Realizing conventional medicine does not support this in clinic practice, Dr. Vilen decided to make the transition to a different healthcare model at a private clinic in Minnesota that combined nonsurgical orthopedics, functional medicine, and fitness specialists. The opportunity to work at a clinic and meet a network of physicians who left conventional medicine to build an integrated healthcare model of finding the root causes of disease rather than pills and steroid injections renewed Dr. Vilen’s interest in practicing medicine.
Dr. Vilen has continued to advance her training in sports medicine and pain management to include: musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnosis and treatment, nerve blocks, regenerative procedures such prolotherapy and PRP, and lifestyle medicine. She received her training in interventional regenerative orthopedic medicine through Regenexx, the worlds leader in Interventional Orthopedics. Dr. Vilen was the first woman physician in the Regenexx network to be certified for all body areas by the Interventional Orthobiologic Foundation. She has completed additional courses in optimization of health through the Institute of Functional Medicine, training in epigenetics, and the Academy of Preventive and Innovative Medicine.
Yoga became a way for Dr. Vilen to incorporate in her life many of the principles she believes are important in both medicine and life. Dr. Vilen completed a Yoga Teacher Training 200-hour certification through the VA to help others integrate yoga into their own lives in a way that works for them.
